I have heard so many stories from people who work for companies where they don’t feel appreciated. Some devote themselves to organizations or relationships that rarely say, “Thank you.”
They battle with reclaiming their time. They struggle with making self-care a priority.
Words matter. What you think. What you say. I’ve seen how words can bring people back to life.
That’s why Hive Over Matter is a storytelling movement – a culture – that wraps people in art and affirmation. We celebrate the everyday epic of being human and the courage it takes to live authentically.
Affirmations You Can Wear
Buy a Shirt & Get a Poem
I created the Reflections Collection clothing line to be a piece of positivity for your daily lives! Each shirt comes with a Poem! Dress your shirt up, down, or however you like it. You can literally wear your mood on your sleeve.
A customized poem come with each shirt, printed and is ready to frame. That way, you can put it in your office, kitchen, or wherever you need to see words of encouragement the most.
I also offer the Reflection Collection electronic workbook. Journaling is the most effective, yet overlooked tool used for self-development, emotion management, and mental decluttering. I use it in my own self-coaching and the ongoing work I do with clients. Written reflection is one of the first and irreplaceable steps on the road to self-acceptance, confidence, and personal fulfillment.
Since 2017, Hive Over Matter has hosted the annual Herstory Poetry Contest & Life Scholarship Award in November as a way to encourage and support artists and storytellers. It’s a platform for poets and authors to amplify their voices and unite to celebrate the untold stories of women and their impact on the world.
The term, “herstory” was inspired by my mother-in-law (affectionately called, mother-in-love). She has lived with a “Bi-Polar” diagnosis for over 30 years. Surviving the gradual loss of both parents and a beloved older sister could cause anyone to experience a range of emotions.
Our mental health is nothing to be ashamed of and the stories that expose us to its importance is nothing to hide from. This event is for all of the women who carry their stories in their chest.
When I first started selling my shirts & poetry, my older brother saw something that I couldn’t see at the time. He believed in me and invested $500 to help me to pursue this passion project. This is my way of paying it forward.
Contestants submit a 30-60 second video excerpt of their poem or story for a chance to win the $500 grand prize! Unlike traditional scholarships, it can be used to fund their passion project, feed their family, or bless them in whatever way the winner sees fit.
Our contestants are also given more control over their outcomes. Participants are required to promote themselves on social media to gain votes on their submissions for the opportunity to qualify to perform at the annual event, Pinot & Poetry: A Toast to Herstory”. There is no entry fee, but contestants are required to sell a minimum number of tickets to reserve their ranking.
We understand that our current circumstances may not allow for this event this year, but we are sending our support to all of the tribe and will update everyone once we can reconvene. To stay in the loop, be sure to submit your information below.
